Volunteer at Meals of Marin!
How to Volunteer
We are looking for dedicated people to help us.
Volunteers are scheduled for specific days of the week.
A 3-month minimum commitment is a great start, but we also have room for
high-school students fulfilling service commitments and for some
court-ordered community service.
Orientation Session
All volunteers start with a phone interview followed by an in-person
orientation session. Please call Alex Khu on (415) 457-4666 to set up your
phone interview. Once you you have completed your phone interview and
orientation session, you will be able to schedule your volunteer work.
Volunteer Cooks
Volunteer Cooks help prepare the meals with 4 or 5 other volunteers in our kitchen in San Rafael. Their help is needed for the first shift between 9 a.m. and
12:00 noon and for the second shift between 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. daily.
Duties include: cleaning, peeling, and chopping of vegetables, sandwich making, assisting the Lead Chef with the hot entrees, dishing up and packaging the meals, etc., ALL volunteers assist with clean up. No cooking experience required – just the willingness to learn and to be of service wherever help is needed
- and to have a good time knowing you are making a huge difference in someone else’s life.
Volunteer Drivers
Volunteer Drivers pick up the meals from the kitchen in San Rafael and
deliver them to our clients’ homes. We have twelve different routes. A route
takes about 1 ½ to 2 hours to complete and has about 8 to 10 stops. The
meals are picked up from the kitchen at 2:30 p.m. on weekdays as well as on
weekends (noon on Holidays). Your own car and gas are used to deliver the
meals. We provide all the information you need to be successful.
'Jumper' Cooks and Drivers
We have positions available for cooks and drivers who cannot commit to a weekly slot but still want to volunteer occasionally. We would call you if we needed help because a regular volunteer had to cancel and you would tell us if you were available or not.

Special Events, Mailers, Office Projects etc
We need volunteers to help us with Special Events, House Parties, Holiday Mailers, etc. We would call you in advance and you’ll tell us if you are available.
